Mazda MX-5 Review
Now in its fourth generation, the Mazda MX-5 has been infusing fun into motoring for decades. Despite humble power outputs and a basic package, the model delivers a highly enjoyable drive in charming manner.
The iconic roadster is in a class of its own, its closest rival being the Fiat 124 Spider, and that’s only because it’s based on the MX-5.
Driving and Performance
1.8-litre and 2.0-litre engine options are available if you are purchasing a third-generation used Mazda MX-5, or the latest version will offer a choice of 1.5 or 2.0. If you are thinking that these options are not going to provide enough power, the vehicle’s lightweight structure should make you think again.
While it is not the speediest sports car on the market, the Mazda MX-5 is indisputably one of the best vehicles to drive. It is exceptionally agile and engaging, boasting satisfyingly smooth gear changes. The steering may be a little too light, but you’ll soon forgive the model for that once you’ve gotten used to it and are experiencing the joy the MX-5 brings.
Interior
The interior layout of the Mazda MX-5 is simple and logical, with everything where it should be. For a sports car, you may be surprised at how practical it is, offering a deep boot and plenty of cockpit space. The seats are comfortable, and the car feels well built.
Cost
The Mazda MX-5 will not cost a fortune, and there is not a huge amount of difference between a 2.0-litre and a less powerful model. Plus, the car does a great job at holding onto its value.
With its lightweight body and efficient engines, the model is reasonably cheap to run. Depending on the engine type and version you choose, you can expect the Mazda MX-5 to return between 35 and 45mpg.
Verdict
Somehow, without breath-taking speed, extensive specification options or the most advanced automotive technology, the MX-5 has won the hearts of petrol heads everywhere. If you are interested in buying a used Mazda MX-5, view our range online!
